Individualized and compassionate care during pregnancy, labor, and childbirth can help a mother and her partner feel more confident in their ability to birth. For hundreds of years women have provided each other with companionship and reassurance during the sacred journey of birth. Although it had become less common for some time, there has been a reemergence of Doula attended births as recent studies provide evidence of the benefits.
Having a Doula at your labor and birth has the following measurable benefits:
31% decrease in use of pitocin
20% decrease in cesarean rates
12% increase of spontaneous vaginal birth
9% decrease in the use of any medication for pain relief
14% decrease in the risk of newborns being admitted to special care nursery
34% decrease in the risk of being dissatisfied in the birth experience
Average labors are shorter by approximately 40 mins
Babies less likely to have low APGAR scores
Continuous support was most effective when the provider was not a part of medical staff or in the mothers social network (i.e. family/partner)
The Making of a Kriya Birth Doula
Our Labor-Doulas attend a workshop led by Kriya Doula Trainers. They learn about the labor process, techniques for pain relief and effective communication with a laboring woman, her partner and hospital staff.
Our unique approach to training includes a comprehensive understanding of the mind-body connection through mindfulness.
Each Doula is offered continuous mentoring from an experienced Doula.
